“Break the Silence”

A few days ago, “New Jerseyans” were blessed to experience a burst of sunshine and a sprinkle of spring warmth in the midst of our winter season.  It was a joy to experience the brief hiatus from the frigid temperatures and blustery winds that had become our constant companion.

Taking advantage of the superb weather conditions, I embarked on a stroll around the grounds of my place of employment in hopes of burning some much needed calories. As I began to walk, I began to allow my spirit to pray and the words that I uttered were “God, when are you going to break the silence”? “I have been asking you for direction and you haven’t answered me.” The response back that I received was, When are YOU going to break the silence??” I stopped in my tracks. I was bewildered by His response as I was the one who had initiated the afternoon dialogue and I had just referred to my constant inquiries to Him regarding the need for direction for my life. He continued His speech, You talk to me when you FEEL like it, and then you expect me to answer you right away all the time. It doesn’t work like that.”

Wow! True, I had been inquiring of God about certain situations in my life, but I have to admit that I had not been in consistent and FERVENT PRAYER. Yes, I prayed daily but most times it was “on the run,” because of being preoccupied with other things. I had not been in my prayer closet in weeks sharing uninterrupted, focused, and intentional intimacy with God.

That day, I learned an important lesson. If we want God to break the silence and speak to us, then we have to break the silence by inviting in a spirit of consistency in our lives. The Scriptures says, “The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results” James 5:16 (NLT). Perhaps we are praying…but not earnestly and on a consistent basis. This means CARVING out time to pray amidst our busy schedules and the exhaustion that overwhelms our bodies.

I encourage you today to break the silence and become committed to earnest prayer and supplication to God on a daily basis; not just when you feel up to it, but despite how you feel. When we are faithful in breaking our silence to Him, He will be faithful in breaking His silence to us and send us our much needed answers.

Please pray for me. I know that you will. I am praying for you.

“He’s an Intelligent God!”

It is very easy to become frustrated and overwhelmed by what would appear to be the injustices of life. When things happen that we do not understand or agree with; even the strongest of Christians can begin to question the allowance of our God. After all, if He is omniscient, WHY would he sit back and allow things to transpire that He already knows is going to cause us inconvenience/ and or pain?  These are questions that I have been mulling over for some time.

As my tradition, I placed my answer on the altar of prayer and patiently waited for God to provide me with a satisfactory explanation. Well He answered me alright, but as His tradition, he did not respond to me in the fashion that I was expecting. His answer came to me in a form of rebuke. He said to me, “STOP INSULTING MY INTELLIGIENCE.”  WOW!

Like, the prophet Isaiah I experienced a “Woe Is Me!!” moment (See Isaiah 6:5). I suddenly realized how miniscule my opinion is in the sight of God. I realized that when I question God’s authority and sovereignty I inadvertently insult His intelligence.

Saints, amidst all of the chaos in our world, God knows what He is doing. He is not blind-sided or taken off guard by ANYTHING or ANYONE. Jesus wasn’t even blinded sided by Judas. He knew all along that Judas wasn’t trust worthy and would eventually betray him; yet his Father allowed him to experience the hurt and humiliation of being betrayed by someone he once called friend. (See Matthew 26:23). God allowed Jesus to experience much sorrow and grief for the greater good of His divine plan.

Rest easy my friend. Do not resign, withdraw, or sink into hopelessness because of what is taking place in our land or in your personal life.  Be encouraged and remember this:

“God has spoken plainly, and I have heard it many times: Power, O God, belongs to you”; (Psalms 62:11 NLT)
Do not become guilty of insulting God’s intelligence by arguing with or refusing to accept God’s plan for your life. He knows what He is doing. Just trust Him and LIVE!
