The Rebirth of Peace In The Storm Publishing (New Dawn, New Life, New Vision)

ElissaGabrielleBlackHeadShotBrickPeace Loyal Readers:

“I walk by faith and look for things yet to come. My soul and my spirit in you my lord I trust. Held up by the knowledge that you, you are just. I know that you care and will always be there. Dear Spirit, watch over me, Teacher and my comfort be. My spirit, My Lord set free, as I draw close to thee. Be with me in darkest night. Shield me from evil’s might. Remove from my side the thorn. Be my Peace In the Storm.”

Those are the words to “Peace In The Storm” a song my father, Jazz Musician, Joe Thomas, wrote when I was eight years old. I remember him playing the melody on the piano at our home in Newark, New Jersey. I also remember reading the words and it was then that I realized the power of words and I began to write. I’ve been writing ever since.

I had to go to these words and lean on them a couple years ago when my beautiful mother died. She died. The thought of it still makes me numb. The fact that I have to say, “My Mother is dead,” destroys me. She died. My mother is dead. And, when she died, I died. I kept dying. Each day, a part of my soul seemed to die. My spirit suffered a long and painful death because the woman who birthed me, who was my breath taker when I could not breathe on my own was gone. My lifeline disappeared and the journey to her disappearance, that awful cancer, changed me in a way that’s hard to explain. One thing is for sure, I am forever changed.

I died the day my mother did.

I slept for eighteen hours a day sometimes. There were times I didn’t sleep at all. Grief overwhelmed me internally. For the better part of six months I was on auto-pilot.

I didn’t miss a beat with life it seems. I functioned, and only by the grace of God did I function.

Then, one day, I was awakened. Fresh air was blown into my lungs. I became alive again. I looked at my legs and my pretty feet. I stared in the mirror and saw the shape of my eyes. The pout in my lips. The color of my skin. I thought about my generous spirit. My gifting soul. I was reminded of my kind and gentle nature. I, too, was reminded of my feisty mouth. I took my hair out of my signature scarf. I combed and brushed my hair. I washed it. I remembered the way I walk, tall, straight, with confidence.

My spirit was awakened. I was reborn. The rebirth of my soul was happening and I whispered the words, “She lives, because I live.” She lives because I have her feet. She lives because her generous, giving, gifting soul lives in me. She lives because of that feisty mouth she passed down to me.

I live. I can live. Because she lived.

Isn’t it something how God works in our lives? The rebirth of my soul and spirit is in alignment with the Rebirth of Peace In The Storm Publishing.

“What’s Your Action Plan??”

Focus Scriptures:

Proverbs 16:30(NLT), Proverbs 20:18(NLT) & Joshua 1:7 (NLT)

Ladies, it is the desire of God for all of the ideas that He has invested in our heart to come to pass. However, it’s not going to happen by osmosis.  If we are going to become successful then we need to develop a plan of action in order for us to achieve our goals. We need a well thought out STRATEGY to help us to successfully navigate through the various seasons of our lives.  God has promised us success if we acknowledge Him and allow Him be the director of our path.

Talk, talk, talk.  That’s all some of us do. We talk about what we need to do, what we know that we are called to do, and what we want to do but we have done absolutely nothing about it! We have not disciplined ourselves to sit down and develop a strategy  that will transform our words into the tangible realm.

In Joshua 1:6-9, God provides a strategy for Joshua that would guarantee him, not just success, but GOOD success:

  1. Be strong & VERY courageous
  2. Carefully OBEY all things outlined in God’s Word
  3. Study the Word of God and MEDITATE on it daily

What does this mean to us today?

  1. STOP being so scared & intimidated by everything and everybody!  I speak from experience of the paralyzing effect of being afraid to launch out into greatness. I was simply scared of failing. However, I’ve learned that if I fail “SO WHAT…GET OVER IT AN SIMPLY TRY AGAIN!”
  2. ACCEPT the fact that you are STRONG AND COURAGEOUS in Jesus name! God has CHOSEN YOU to do what you do. He is too smart to invest in weakling. Since he chose you as his prize investment…embrace your STRENGTH.
  3. Take the time and research what the BIBLE teaches about your specific endeavor! Every topic you can think of can be found in the Word of God from financial planning, mission endeavors, building a home, building a business, being a wife, being a mother, the list goes on and on.
  4. MEDITATE, (ponder) on what the Word of God says about your purpose and let it marinate in your mind and spirit.

If we apply these 3 principles then God will begin to speak to us, connect us to the right people, and show us the steps that we need to take in order to move from being TALKERS to being KINGDOM BUILDERS.

Commit to developing an action plan. Set goals for yourself. Connect with an accountability partner who will push you to accomplish your goals and dreams! Remember, it’s time to get to work.  Time is short. Stop making excuses and JUST DO IT!

Purple ReignBeloveds,

I can’t tell you the number of times people laughed at me. I can’t tell you the number of times that I didn’t have support even from my family and those who claim to be family. I can’t tell you the number of times that others belittled my dreams. I can tell you that my dreams had become so big that I had to stop sharing them with small-minded people. And I can tell you this…

This goes out to all of the dreamers and the people on the voyage to fulfilling those dreams. Although I am nowhere near where I want to be in my literary career, I am very far from the place I started. I understand how hard it is to pursue you passion and purpose when the world is telling you “No,” in so many ways every chance it gets. Don’t give up.

It is a beautiful thing to HONOR how far you’ve come in the first place which is why I am posting photos of the journey because someone needs to see and understand that impossible circumstances can make possible miracles. Amen?

If you can give thanks for the little things you will always find that you have enough. And, if you’re blessed enough to surpass that, you’ll always be grateful. But you can’t give up.

My Dreamers, don’t give up. Even when you’re tired. Don’t give up. The world is full of abundance. There is a place for you at the table. Never, ever give up.

Love You to Life.

It’s Time to Get to Work!

“So built we the wall; and all the wall was joined together unto the half thereof: for the people had a mind to work”.(Nehemiah 4:6)

Ladies once we have accepted the fact that it is absolutely the will of God for us to accomplish all that He has embedded in our hearts to do, then it is time for us to get to work. Setting goals for ourselves is a wonderful thing to do. However, achieving the goals that we have set for ourselves is a far more satisfying experience.
The difference in setting goals and actually achieving goals are rooted in our state of mind.
Today’s Scripture focus proves that when we shift our mindset to accomplishment, only then will we experience our visions and dreams for our lives manifested into the tangible. In the text, Nehemiah had the mindset to rebuild his beloved city of Judah which had been vandalized and left in ruins. While others were complaining and mourning about what USED to be…Nehemiah envisioned what it COULD be. He developed a strategy to cause his vision to become a reality. His enthusiasm, determination, and hard work were so contagious that it fueled the original complainers to transform into workers in rebuilding the city.
What strategy can we develop to aid us in shifting from being mere goal setters to becoming goal achievers?
1. Set strict written deadlines for ourselves for the things that are in our heart to accomplish. For example, if the goal is to return to school, establish a deadline for submitting the application to the chosen school.

2. Connect with an accountability partner. Find someone who will not tolerate our excuses for NOT accomplishing our goals. Submit copies of our written deadlines to them.

3. Associate with others who have already accomplished what we are attempting to. Their success will motivate us to pursue our own.

4. Seek out a mentor who can provide us with the wisdom and direction that we need to navigate through the challenges that will arise on our journey of accomplishment.

Guess what? Of all the women walking on the planet, God chose to put HIS idea and creativity into YOUR heart. Let’s not insult Him by not doing anything about it. Let’s stop making excuses and “JUST DO IT!” It’s time to get to work!

Look for my upcoming release, “Heart of a Woman” coming soon!
